Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Morse held open houses at their East Wyoming home on June 9 to celebrate their 50th anniversary. He is a son of the late Civil War veteran M. H. Morse. she is Mamie Tasker, daughter of the pioneer Tasker family. They wed June 9, 1898, lived in Wyoming and on the Morse farm, and retired three years ago. They have three children Reginald, Mrs. Grizelda State, and John, plus two granddaughters.
Vernon Payne marked his 25th wedding anniversary at a dinner hosted by Mr and Mrs John Albany. Guests included extended family from Monticello Onslow Richland and Bernard plus friends from Cedar Rapids Ames and Rockford Ill. Community members enjoyed fellowship and birthday wishes for John Jr. and the Payne couple.
Churches across the Monticello area list weekly worship times. Sacred Heart Catholic Church offers Masses 8 and 10 am with weekdays 7 am and holy days 6 and 9 am. confessions Saturday 3:30–4:30 and First Fridays 3–4 pm. Presbyterian, St. John's, St. Matthew's, Castle Grove, American Lutheran, Congregational Christian, Methodist, and Wayne Zion announce varied services, baptisms, Sunday schools, vacation Bible school, picnics, rallies, and youth events through June. A Monticello high school rally on June 20 features Rev. G P Krebs as speaker with a potluck dinner and band entertainment. advance notices encourage widespread church attendance.
