A large tree on the Ed Lubben farm about six miles south of Monticello on highway 151 was uprooted by a storm at around 1:30 a.m. Monday. Tornado like winds stripped leaves from a row of poplars in the same area.
Severe thunderstorm damage hits Monticello. A curtain was pulled outside a window at Monti Barber Center when the pane shifted, leaving the drape outside as the window returned. A tree uprooted and branches broke on nearby streets, with other stores and schools reporting damage.
A long accounting list from Anamosa and Monticello shows numerous vehicle and property related fines and court actions. The police court entries include offenses such as reckless driving speeding and intoxication with fines ranging from 1 to 25 dollars, plus a batch of public notices for demolitions and home improvements in Monticello.
Police report two separate crashes leading to charges. James J. Oberbreckling of Cedar Rapids faces a failure to stop charge after a southbound 1969 Chevrolet hit Earl E. McNeal’s 1967 Mercury on N Main Street at 7 19 p m. Damages about 350 and 250 dollars respectively. A second accident on May 24 at E Oak Street involved Kathy K Gadient and a 1971 Javelin. Damage was about 90 dollars.
LaVern Schoon owner of Schoon Motors Monticello announced his firm acquired the Owatonna farm equipment dealership this week. Schoon Motors will offer official parts and service for Owatonna Schoon's ad appears on page B-
Sacred Heart parish in Monticello announced its ham and beef smorgasbord for this week. The dinner will be held Sunday July 18 in the church basement with serving from 11 30 a.m. to 2 30 p.m.
