Washington May 2 7 Practically nothing may be recovered by those who lost relatives or baggage in the Titanic disaster according to a decision by the Supreme Court on Monday. The court held the liability of Oceanic Steam Navigation company for 13 million in claims as owner of the Titanic is limited by the American limited liability law of 1851 to salvage value and freight and passage money from the voyage.

Jacob Riis a noted author and sociologist died after a long illness in Barre Massachusetts. Born Jacob A Riis in Ribe Denmark on May 3 1849 he moved to New York at 21 and became a reform advocate in tenement and playground work. He served as secretary of the New York Small Parks Commission in 1897 and remained connected with Roosevelt and reform movements. His first wife died in 1905 and he married Mary Phillip of St Louis on July 29 1907.
An Oakland police officer will travel over 20,000 miles to extradite Sir Harry Westwood Cooper to face several charges including bigamy. The city council approved sending the officer to South Africa with the state covering the expenses.
The Hatchtown irrigation dam broke and caused a flood with $200,000 in losses. About ten thousand cattle perished and crops across thousands of acres were destroyed in Salt Lake City on May 29.

Hogg, a 45 year old resident of southwest Chariton, was shot while walking home from the theater near the Rock Island depot. He states the shooter was a man he does not know. the bullet hit the left chest near the heart and exited the back under the shoulder.
Colfax reports Frank Sherman longtime cashier at the failed Bank of Sully is under arrest on a fraudulent banking charge. Complainant John Holdsworth says Sherman accepted a $125 deposit the day the bank failed while knowing it was insolvent. Holdsworth had $800 in the bank.
Dubuque officials announce the city will drop its $5,000 subscription to the Greater Iowa movement for a suitable San Francisco exhibition building. None of the twelve governor appointed committee members hail from Dubuque.

The wedding date remains undisclosed.
Lester P. Barlow of Clear Lake son of the White Pier manager serves as a lieutenant in General Villa s Mexican army after four years as a U S Navy gunner. He is reported ill with typhoid fever in an El Paso Texas hospital and writes his parents praising Villa as a courageous friend of the downtrodden despite misrepresentation.
The coroner holds a body believed to be George Grant a railroad laborer aged 25 to 30 after he was struck by a Northwestern passenger train while attempting to steal a ride. Relatives have yet to claim the body.
