A break-in at Central School in Monticello damaged multiple areas and thefts occurred late Thursday night into Friday morning. Entry likely gained via a shop window, with tools, dispensers, coin boxes, a fire extinguisher, and car tires stolen. Sheriff’s office investigates both incidents.

Community youth council organizes with elected 1965 66 officers
Tom Miller of Oxford Junction was elected president of the Jones county Boys 4-H at a roundup in Anamosa Saturday night. Other officers elected were Mark Zirkelbach Center Junction vice president John Scheer Lisbon secretary Steve Schlarman Monticello historian Gary Stevers Wyoming reporter. Miller and 13 Jones county delegates will attend the State 4-H conference in Ames June 9 to 12 with a pre conference session June 7 to 9.

Awards Given to S H Seniors at Friday Ceremony
The Rt Rev Msgr Eugene P Lorenz Sacred Heart superintendent and Attorney Andrew Steritt presented multiple awards to S H seniors in their homeroom after final exams. Michael Lambert received the American citizenship award via the Bar Association representative Strittmatter. Bernard Luensman Joyce Nehl earned First Honors pins. B J Featherston received a special athletic award. Joyce Nehl and Richard Clement earned four years of perfect attendance citations. Richard Clement also was honored for four years of daily Mass attendance and a vocal music cooperation pin. All seniors received a 1965 pin. Commencement Sunday night will announce the two top ranking seniors and the Redmond scholarship recipient.

Three burglaries occurred Monday night at Hopkinton locations Spahn Rose Lumber Co Herington s Standard Service Station and Billings Grocery. Some cash was taken though the amount wasn t known by presstime Wednesday. No merchandise was reported missing. Delaware County sheriff s office is investigating.

Four accidents reported in Jones county this week
Four traffic accidents were reported to Jones county law enforcement officials in the past week. Luella E. Gardner, 24, Davenport, escaped injury when her 1963 Chevrolet overturned on highway 38 east of Center Junction. two small boys were uninjured. John Schoon, 75, Monticello, escaped injury after his 1956 Mercury left the road near the Monticello airport, striking a billboard. Schoon was charged with failure to have control. Julius Lorenzen, 81, Olin, suffered facial lacerations, bruises, and a broken hip when his car, driven by Louis Martin Lorenzen, 68, Olin, collided with Glen Felderman’s 1959 Oldsmobile four miles south of Olin on highway 38. Felderman was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign. A station wagon struck a horse on highway 15 near Fairview injuring one of seven occupants. the horse was killed and the wagon front end was damaged.
