The Monticello pool opens to the public this Saturday marking years of planning and fundraising. Civic leaders and volunteers converted a $70,000 effort into a modern pool and recreation area aimed at serving Monticello and nearby residents for decades. The project included bond issues, bid revisions, and extra fundraising to cover costs and ensure timely completion.
Sgt. Charles E. Glanz received full military honors at Hopkinton Presbyterian Church and graveside in Hopkinton cemetery after casketed remains arrived from the Graves Distribution Center in Chicago. He died June 14 1945 from Battle of the Bulge wounds while serving in England and Belgium during World War II. Surviving parents and one sister reside in Hopkinton.
Erskine stays in Hopkinton while Mrs. Taylor plans a Honolulu visit with her mother Mrs. Martha Erskine. Clarence Hageman reports the loss of two horses and a three month colt in the Monday night storm. Miss Marjorie Allen returns from Syria for a vacation with Rev. and Mrs. Allen. A birthday celebration honors Mrs. Nellie Wheeless, age 87, with neighbors. Various local visits and travel to Seattle for a missionary convention are also noted.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Anna Edgerton were held at Harrington funeral home in Wyoming on Monday at 2 p.m. Rev. Somerville officiated. burial followed in Pioneer cemetery. She was born July 4, 1865 near Johnsontown and died July 23 at University Hospital, Iowa City. Survivors include a son Fred Lewis of Center Junction and relatives in Iowa City and Onslow. She resided in Davenport the last 22 years. An engagement announced: Bonnie Anita Hinrichsen to Robert Lyons, Aug. 10 at Center Junction Presbyterian Church. The Madison Merry Maids hosted camp attendees and planned a county fair feature. club committees listed. Paul Maire and wife visited from Beverly Hills after staying with Ray Adams family.
