Barrier uses creosoted paper against chinch bugs near Anamosa
A creosoted paper barrier was installed on the Henry Siebels farm northeast of Anamosa to prevent chinch bug migration from barley to corn. Creosote is available at the Farm Bureau office for barrier construction, with the operation visible on county road J. Heavy rainfall and high humidity have caused widespread barley scab, a fungal disease affecting cereals. Hog feed plans could be disrupted as hogs avoid barley with scab, though cattle tolerate rye barley without harm.
