Eight Lives Lost As Paris C Brown Sinks On Mississippi
The steamboat Paris C Brown struck a snag at Hermitage landing Point Coupee Parish near New Orleans Saturday night and sank within minutes. Eight crew and passengers are confirmed dead including William Mitchell Gallipolis Ohio and William Marshall Cincinnati with others saved. The vessel, 1400-ton, owned by Halliday and Young, carried 170 tons of car wheels plus sugar molasses iron and sundries and was insured for 14000. It had left New Orleans Friday night with 600 tons freight and was built in Cincinnati in 1878 for the trade to New Orleans.
