A weekend storm dumped about eight inches of snow in the Monticello area from Friday night February 20 into Saturday February 21. Road conditions were hazardous across Iowa with several Monticello events canceled or postponed while warmer weather melted most snow by Tuesday night.
A presentation of the official Bicentennial flag to Monticello will headline a special MHS band concert Thursday March 4 at 8 p m in the high school auditorium. Seventh through ninth grade bands and the senior band will perform.
Monticello high school student Dixie Martin, 14, was struck by a northbound car at the S Main and E Washington intersection at 9 50 p m Friday Feb 20 after crossing behind a southbound vehicle and was treated for cuts abrasions and chipped teeth at John McDonald hospital overnight for observation. The Holly driven 1965 Mustang owned by Louis Holly sustained about 150 in damage.
