Monticello school board hits new policy and summer courses
The Monticello board approved a pass-fail option for government students and a new Quest course for a half credit research project. Kirkwood Community College will offer summer and fall courses for high schoolers with areas not available locally. The 1971-72 calendar was set, and a scholarship committee was appointed for the Carpenter award. Cornell College will send two student teachers next year to assist with Spanish and speech. Two Monticello boys Mark Gabriel and Dan DeSousa earned Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor in the Monticello Community building. Gabriel, active since 1962, 50 mile canoe trips, Jamboree participant, Region 10 canoe base. DeSousa, 16, Troop 1683 member, Order of the Arrow, two 50 mile hikes and one canoe trip.
