Four sentenced for bad checks in Jones county district court
Four Monticello area residents were sentenced Friday in Jones county district court after attempting to pass worthless checks on January 20. Each received three year terms for conspiracy to obtain by false pretense with two women and two men among the defendants. Barbara Edwards and Nancy Mortenson received threeyear terms. Edwards paroled to the Iowa State Board of Parole, Mortenson to the Rockwell City women’s reformatory. Ernest Mortenson to Fort Madison state penitentiary. Walter Edwards to Anamosa men’s reformatory.

Leigh Clark Named Chair of Jones County Planning Board
Leigh Clark of Monticello was named chairman of the Jones County regional planning and zoning board at the group’s initial meeting Friday night at the Farm Bureau building. Fred Petersen of Wyoming and Joe Legg of Anamosa were named vice chairman and secretary respectively, with terms for three to five years assigned to twelve members. The board will interview consulting firms and hire trained personnel to survey the county and determine local needs.

Two charged after traffic mishaps in Monticello
Two drivers face failure to yield charges after separate Monticello incidents last week. Lavern Lambert collided with Melvin Wells at North Sycamore and East Third streets, causing minor damage. Charles Bartels, driving a 1963 Dodge, collided with Kenneth Hasler at Main and East First, with modest vehicle damage. A separate one car crash near Wyoming left 17 year old John Bennen with minor injuries after a rollover on icy Highway 136.

Monticello School Board Announces Administrative Changes
The Monticello Community school board announced personnel changes effective 1965 1966. Dale Greenawald becomes Shannon Elementary principal after serving as high school principal since 1961 and previously as superintendent of Morley schools. Darold Albright is named high school principal. Mrs Lois Shover remains Carpenter school principal. Supt Boyd Shannon offered a three year contract starting July 1 1965 and expressed plans to finish his career at its end.
