Monticello Board and teachers form joint study panel
Monticello Community school teachers and the board of education named a special study committee after a 90 minute informal session. President Bob Wahl will appoint two board representatives to meet with two teachers and the superintendent to locate agreement and disagreement on school matters including teaching conditions and salaries. The group plans to meet soon and hold an executive session January 3 to discuss personnel matters.

Christmas winner receives 1968 Chevy in Monticello
Mrs. Nick Clement of rural Monticello won the 1968 Chevrolet in a Christmas drawing conducted by the Greater Monticello Committee GMC chair Jim Shelley presented the keys while Jill Reade drew the winning ticket. Clement has prior car winnings at the Great Jones County Fair in 1964 and the Saturday drawing marked GMC's final five holiday prizes.

Car hits utility pole plunging towns into darkness
A one car crash in Jones county knocked out power to Olin Morley Stanwood and part of Clarence Saturday evening. Don ld LeeRoy Akerly 25 Marion was driving a 1965 Chevrolet when he left Highway 64 breaking the Iowa Electric pole. He was charged with failure to have control of his vehicle.
