Jones County Swine Producers approve an aggressive campaign to boost pork consumption funded by producers nationwide. They also call for a uniform price differential from meat packers, while events in Monticello and other states show farmer-led action to raise prices.
A columnist surveys deer rubbing signs on cedars and tracks to aid prehunt planning. He notes downward fox and coon trends with variable mink prospects, and pheasants remaining plentiful though concentrated in woods. Wildlife numbers rise and fall cyclically due to weather, hunting pressure, disease, and predators.

Center Junction grade school pupils will present a Christmas program Thursday evening December 22 at 7 30 in the gymnasium. The public is invited. Students will be dismissed December 23 for Christmas vacation and return January 2. The Birthday club met Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Harm Dirks to honor their birthdays with a pot luck dinner for Mr and Mrs Mike Paulsen.
Saturday visitors Mr. and Mrs. Louis Davis visited Andrew Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Don Manning traveled to Cascade for Joe Kearney's funeral with Manning serving as an honorary pallbearer. Willis Heideman called on residents in Monticello Wednesday. Donald Manning hosted guests Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hamann of Calamus. Glen Andrews and family joined Mr. and Mrs. Howard Zirkelbach for Monday supper.
Mr and Mrs Joe Crowley entertained Thursday evening with a dinner attended by Mr and Mrs Art Weber Mr and Mrs Delbert Weber Mr and Mrs Henry Marek Mr and Mrs Cyril Elenz Mr and Mrs Francis Miller all of Monticello and Mr and Mrs Art White of Dundee.
