The Grinnell Iowa unemployment league opens an office to operate an employment bureau for winter jobs. It will contract work for skilled and unskilled labor and seeks co operation from residents with available tasks. The move follows local distress and aims to reduce cold season hardships.
The missionary society of the Presbyterian church presents the pageant play The Dream That Came True at 7 30 Sunday evening. The tale follows Mr Walden a busy man faced with mounting bills and a warning that reckless spending could end Thanksgiving in the poor house. The program lists a cast of family neighbors and clergy with many names and roles.
Monticello high school is among about 300 Iowa high schools expected to join the University of Iowa fifth annual academic meet. The meet is scheduled for May 9 with registration forms and test blanks to be sent to all schools by February 1. Nonparticipants may use the tests but cannot win awards.
Eva F. Ellison age 69 a long time Martelle resident died December 3 in Watsonville California. Her body will go to Martelle to the home of her daughter Mrs Gotch. She was born October 10 1863 and lived in Martelle until last summer when she moved west. Survived by two children S H Ellison and Mrs E C Gotsch two sisters Mrs Emma Miller and Mrs Frank Holcomb and three brothers A H Newman G A Newman of Martelle and Otis Newman of Cedar Rapids.
