Jones County Fair Returns to Monticello for 86th Session
The Jones County Fair, a long standing community event near Monticello, Iowa, prepares for its 86th session at the city park. Originating in 1853 with a Richland township horse race, the fair grew through the years with 4 H exhibits and a named amphitheater. A single admission grants all grounds access and amphitheater seating.

Overheated stove destroys Cascade home
An overheated oil stove in the Albert Fay residence caused a bedroom to burn and the main house to suffer heavy fire damage. Night marshal Fay returned home and started a boiler for laundry water, awakening to smoke and a kitchen fire that spread quickly before the fire department arrived. Loss estimated in the thousands, partially insured.
