Monticello Iowa reads bids for sewage plant addition
The Monticello city council approved plans and specifications for a sewage disposal plant upgrade after a hearing. Five bids were opened with M F Gordt Construction Co of Dubuque the low bidder at 219 720. City engineer had estimated 200 000. Gordt bid 193 320 plus 35 800 for Alternate III and deducted 9 400 for no sludge bed. Other bids ranged up to 251 796. federal grant 54 000, with requests for 12 000 more to cover 30 percent of construction.

Monticello Council approves 1970 budget and flags Elm disease
The Monticello city council adopted a 357237 dollar budget for 1970 with no objections. Forester Bill Corbin reports 149 diseased elms and 35 more with signs of disease, plus 300 healthy trees, as Dutch elm disease has claimed 309 trees in three years.

Tr uman Langager resigns as Jones County engineer
The Jones County Board of Supervisors accepted the resignation of Truman Langager the county engineer since January 1966 effective October 1. He will become the Tama County engineer and previously served as Wapello County engineer in Ottumwa for 18 months. The board approved the county budget with cuts to the state institution fund and the county memorial fund and added funds for retarded preschool classrooms. They also approved David M. Remley as assistant county attorney serving without pay and announced a weekly Flower Talk column by Jan Tjaden of Jan's Flowers & Gifts.
