Old Age Benefit Applications Open in Jones County
Iowa residents in public employment with ten years of service and age 65 may retire after July 1 1947. Wives aged 65 may also qualify for half the husband’s benefit. In Anamosa residents may apply Wednesdays at 9:30 am to 3 pm at the state employment office, Court House. Leonard A Evenmoe will assist with estimates and forms. The plan mirrors the Federal Old Age and Survivor Law and is funded by a 1 percent employee tax plus a matching employer contribution.

British Plan for Huge Africa Farm Project
A British government driven initiative proposes a 5000 square mile mechanized farm in Africa split into 107 farm steads each of 30000 acres. It aims to employ over 60000 people, lay 100 miles of rail, and produce 60000 tons of oil seeds yearly within five years. Initial cost is one million dollars over six years, with eventual public ownership and local transfer.
