The Jones county corn crop suffers from prolonged drought in late July and early August. If heat and dryness persist into mid August, a 40 to 45 percent reduction is expected, with late corn most affected and tasseling slowed. Pests are fewer this year, possibly due to hot weather.
Mrs Kate Lambert of Jones County was the sole Monticello representative at the Legion auxiliary convention in Des Moines held last week. She described a busy schedule and a full program planned for the coming year.
