Mrs. Mabel Lord 79 former Hopkinton resident died Monday July 25 at Scott Nursing Home Smyrna Delaware. Funeral Thursday in Newark with burial at Graceland Memorial Cemetery Newark. Born May 1876 on a Hopkinton area farm she graduated Lenox College 1899 and served as a deaconess in Chicago before marriage to Willis Lord in 1910.

James Ferguson aged 66 of Sherwood Oregon died Monday July 25 in Portland. He was born near Buck Creek and lived in Oregon for 20 years. He never married and is survived by sister Maude and brother Cargill Ferguson. Rev F E Allen officiated at the graveside service at 2300 p.m. in Hopkinton cemetery. burial followed in the family lot.
Mrs. C. J. Cooney of Oolwein died Monday, August 1 at Mercy hospital after a long illness. Funeral arrangements are pending for Mrs. Cooney, mother of Mrs. William Hart of Hopkinton.
A son named Mark Steven weighing 10 pounds 14 ounces was born to Mr and Mrs Supple on Monday Aug 1 at the Monticello hospital joining two sisters Christine and Caroline. Patricia Ann daughter of Mr and Mrs Gilbert Neh joins brother James after birth Monday July 25 at Monticello hospital. Len Willard had hernia surgery at St Luke's Cedar Rapids Wednesday and is recovering at home expected later this week. Harry Smith stayed in Monticello hospital from Thursday to Monday for medical check up diabetic and cataract removal noted. Mrs Gladys Billings entered Monticello hospital Friday for medical check up and care.
Mr and Mrs Walter Schipull and Susan from Arlington Virginia arrived Monday for several days with N A Gearhart in his home. They plan to visit the Schipull home in Renswick and Mr Schipull will go to Montana for watershed work while Mrs Schipull and daughter stay in Hopkinton. Weekend guests in the Elsie Winch home included Mr and Mrs Harvey Tullis of Chetopa Kansas and Mr and Mrs Leslie Meyers and family of Bettendorf Pamela and Timothy Meyers stayed longer. Other guests were Mr and Mrs Jack Burbridge and Mrs Leon Miller of Cedar Falls in the Gene Cross home last Sunday plus Roger Cross who spent a week at the Miller home. Glen Robinson of Manchester was a weekend guest with Mrs Grace Hucker and Edmund Main. Verdun Sill and family of Omaha visited.
Sill's grandparents visited Worthington and helped with threshing. Residents and relatives from Delhi Hopkinton Lisbon Viola and Wabasha shared visits and dinners. Raymond Budden resigned from the Standard station after ten years. Ruth Littlefield received a faculty promotion at Iowa State College and planned Ames duties after a vacation with relatives. Kopellos to sail Sept 1 for London to visit a daughter in England.
Mrs. William Bronson and Mrs. Peter Spreecken attended the American Legion Auxiliary convention in Des Moines. Bronson was installed as second district auxiliary president while concurrent local news report notes a barn fire at Richard Brownell farm destroying hay and straw.
