At the request of the John McDonald hospital board of trustees the Express will stop listing patients. The first and only published list appeared in the July 30 issue. Board representatives cited patient objections as the reason for ending the practice.

Rev. W Russell Hunter pastor of the First Presbyterian church resigns effective July 31 due to heart illness. Congregation to vote on acceptance Sunday at 2 30 p m with Rev Joseph Havlik as moderator. Hunter served since 1952 after Chicago and Clinton posts. Interim services by students John Graham and Stanley Schmidt planned.
The Monticello area hospital seeks more donors for rare blood types B negative AB negative and AB positive to strengthen its walking blood bank. Seventeen donors in the AB group and 53 A positive and 63 O positive donors are listed with nine AB positive donors total. Since December the program has supported 60 transfusions and saved three lives by providing local blood rather than sending to Dubuque, with transfusions typically needing one or two pints. The system calls available donors by type and relies on quick local matching.

Lief Schreiner certified Dale Carnegie instructor addressed Rotarians on How to Be a Leader. A Monticello class is planned with 40 student limit. by noon Tuesday 15 locals signed up. Schreiner to speak at Lions Club Monday evening as guest of Louie Freese.
Rev. Donald J. Hawes, assistant pastor at St. Martin's Cascade, has been named assistant at Holy Family Mason City by the Dubuque Archdiocese office.
Guests in Caspers home Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Husman Coggan were visitors Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tobe Caspers. Evening visitors were Mr and Mrs. Henry Stadtmueller Richard and Daniel.
Henry Biere of Olin named to four year term on Jones County board of review as budget hearings proceed at Anamosa courthouse. A separate public hearing considered the 1957 county schooling budget of 17 600 with no objections. Three special cash prizes are added in the Monticello Express campaign to reward top point earners among subscribers.
Rev William Wilkie, longtime assistant pastor at Sacred Heart Church, is transferred to the faculty of Loras College in Dubuque. A 1950 Loras graduate, he earned a Licentiate in Sacred Theology in 1954 and an MA in medieval history in 1955 at Catholic University. He will teach history, Latin, and religion and leave Monticello on Sept 3.
Fourteen boys attend the Jones county 4-H boys camp which runs through Thursday at the Rotary Youth cabin. Jerry Parsons and Joe Lege lead the camp with Helen Tucker and Mary Ellen Jones cooking. Staff includes Burhop Luckstead Hawkeyes Lubben Royal Rangers Ballou Master Farmers Larson. Campers list includes Eldon Muller Joe Smith Davis Von Sprecken Wilcox Lovell Moeller Arduser Lawrence Hein Ejlers Brunscheen Horn Reade Hansen and others.
Johnny Long 11 grandson of Mr and Mrs Howard Hicks will be flown to LaGrange TU tomorrow morning in Dave Cuckler’s plane. Cuckler will depart Monti cello municipal airport at 7 a.m. The boy son of Dr and Mrs J W Long of Downers Grove Ill suffered second degree burns on both legs while at the Hicks home July 17 and will be moved to an Illinois hospital for treatment.
Jones county may serve as a pilot county for the new Institute for Agricultural Medicine at the State University of Iowa. Dr. Top outlined the institute's goals and grant from the Kellogg Foundation while Dr. Berry and others detailed health topics for farmers, including toxic insecticides and farm accidents. The county council discussed using local health data to aid research and farmer education.
Oxford Junction hosts the Jones County Saddle Club and Wapsie Legion post 473 show on Sunday August 12 from 10 am to 4 pm with 21 classes and $600 in prize money. Grand entry parade at 1 pm. Lunch on grounds. Bands from Oxford Junction high school perform at 1:30 pm.
At the Iowa fairgrounds Sunday afternoon major Democratic candidates spoke as John G Lane of Cascade was elected second district chairman for the National Farmers Organization. New district officers were chosen including Walter Hoppe as district president and Charles Wilbert as district chairman.
Funeral services were held in Cuba City Wisconsin for William Marshall who once lived in Monticello two decades ago and ran a local butcher shop Attendees from Monticello included R H Lang Louise Herkelman William First and Freda Ketelsen from Center Junction
