New Sales Tax Not Slowing Trade Trends Says Expert
On April 2 the two percent sales tax began affecting most trades except services. Public reaction was mild with one grocery complaint. Prof. George R. Davies of Iowa reports a spring trade revival and notes tax transfers purchasing power. He sees no material lift in business from the tax but gradual recovery nationwide and in Iowa. Persistent gains include more wage earners in manufacturing and higher average earnings last February.
