Reserve Township schools opened last Monday with strong turnout. About eighty students enrolled at the Junior Senior High, with classes in mathematics history Latin English natural science domestic science and music. A note of text book delays due to publishing strikes. teachers will cover until new books arrive.
A Sept 7 birthday surprise for Bruce Houchin and his wife drew kinfolks and neighbors to Norton Creed District. Relatives hosted a noon dinner with abundant food followed by devotional services, songs, and talks thanking God for blessings and the day. Guests included Mary A. Layton Rev Isaiah Halli Mrs Minnie Hall Virgil Hall and Miss Minnie Gail of Covington.
The Cook family reunion gathered Sunday at Mrs. Sarah Linebarger’s home in the north central town. About fifty people attended despite heat and dust. A grand union dinner featured seasonal dishes, and John Wright, aged eighty eight, son of former Governor Wright, was the oldest attendee. A large flag, donated by Mr. Wright, was displayed for reunions and kept for that purpose.
The Parke County Federation of Farmers picnic at Beechwood Park Rockville drew large attendance. After picnic dinners President Charles Davis presided and a six piece orchestra played well. Officers elected include president Charles Davis Adams township vice president Elbridge Boyd Adams secretary H B Butler Washington treasurer Louis Pickard Adams and several directors from Adams Washington Sugar Creek Liberty Reserve Howard Union Penn and other townships.
The National Tuberculosis Association names six Indiana schools as winners in the Modern Health Crusade Tournament. Winners include Assumption Evansville Delaware Evansville St Joseph Evansville and Cypress with grades 5 to 8. A winner requires 100 percent enrollment to score as Knights Banneret by completing at least 75 percent of designated health chores in fifteen weeks.
Everett Sanders urges public savings on vegetables and fruit by adopting USDA bulletins on one period cold pack canning and farm and home drying. He offers to send copies on request from 369 House Office Building Washington DC.

The Parke County Historical Society began its season with a gathering in Bridgeton. Mrs Rufus Dooley presided as readings highlighted war efforts in Racoon Township and tributes to soldiers buried in France. A solo by Miss Margaret Payne followed remarks by local leaders and distant friends including Mr George Hawks of El Paso Texas.
The Home Gathering for soldiers closed a successful meeting as residents recalled Rev. Joe Hawks who once ministered in Rockville. Freeman Cox Hector Pence and Dr. John Burton now live on the old Hawks home site. The event, at Beechwood Park, featured free entertainment and nearly $1000 in contracted attractions for October 11. Local officials and volunteers, including Mrs. E. O. Benson, planned township research and a series of future town announcements.
A baseball game is planned for Sunday afternoon at the old Dickens farm. Mec ca is coming to play the tie and a good game is expected. All who attend can enjoy a decent game of base ball.

The Ladies Aid Society of the Church met last Wednesday and re elected officers. Fern Luman of Tangier elected county superintendent to fill the vacancy caused by R. Valentine’s resignation. Valentine has taken a principal position in Hartford City Ind. Luman recently returned from eighteen months of Army service and previously taught in Tangier for five years. He will move to Newport soon.
Walter T VanGamp a garage man of Elizabethtown marries Stella Llorence Warden of Rockville. James Edgar Swaim a student of Rockville weds Dora Hsther Wimmer of Rockville. Clarence P Staggs a farmer of Rockville weds Elizabeth T Yoombes of Greencastle. George Wyatt a farmer of Rockville marries Esther Newton of Terre Haute.

Rockville Independents defeated West Union 9 to 3 last Sunday. West Union failed to display their usual pep and will likely regroup with renewed energy for the next matchup.
John N. Scott of Scotland Illinois and Nelson Scott of Dana stopped at the Enterprise office Tuesday afternoon while traveling to the gravel bank.
