Mary Crim and Father Wander After Mine Strike

In a cold, ash filled winter a fourteen year old girl Mary and her drunken father Jerry Crim endure hunger and cold after a mining strike. She plans to move away with him and they trek through a thaw toward a hopeful settlement, passing neighbors, a well, and an empty cottage before returning home to the orchard cottage where Mary was born. Birthday Surprise for Mrs Harper at Hillsdale Home

Mr and Mrs Wake Harper were surprised Sunday October 26 at their country home near Hillsdale. Friends arrived with baskets and a midday dinner was served. The afternoon was spent with music and conversation as wishes for many more happy birthdays were offered.

Arch Nears Completion Over Old Concrete Bridge

The new arch is nearly finished with concrete work complete and grading underway. The temporary bridge has been removed, easing crossings on the grade.

August Indiana Deaths Totals 3888 Across State

In August there were 3888 deaths in Indiana with 206 from tuberculosis 202 from cancer 47 from bronchopneumonia 38 from typhoid and 17 from influenza. Parke County reported 12 deaths including one from tuberculosis Vermillion County saw 21 deaths.

Dr G W Farver Parke Putnam physician dies in Montezuma

Dr. G W Farver died early Tuesday at his brother in law Wilbert Blue’s home after a long illness. Born 1850 near Covington Ohio he practiced in Bellmore Bainbridge Montezuma and was known for faithful conscientious service. Funeral held at Wilbert Blue residence with Rev George D Prentice officiating. burial in Oakland cemetery.
