The new levies include all taxes but state tax at 18 cents. Assessments were made earlier. Taxpayers can now gauge how the system affects them. In counties yet announced, many will pay less due to fuller listing of taxables and expanded inclusion of intangibles.

Aged Woman Dies in Salvisa Kentucky Home

Mrs. Jalila A. Gritton died after a period of illness and paralysis. She was nearly 79, lived with son M.H. Gritton in the town’s southern part, and left two sons and a daughter, one son in Kentucky and a daughter Mrs. Lewis of West Union. Remains sent to Salvisa Kentucky for burial Sunday afternoon.

Mrs John Machledt celebrated her birthday on Sunday October 19 1919 with an ideal autumn day and eighteen guests. Break-in At H.S Cornwell Hardware Store

Thief entered the hardware store Thursday night through a rear window lighted by a broken sash. Several items including knives were stolen from display cases. No trace of the culprit was found.

Obituary of Miss Geoil Daniels 1898 1919

Miss Geoil Daniels eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs James Daniels died October 15 1919 at age 21 years 7 months and 5 days from accidental electrocution in Montezuma. She was employed at Powell Drug Store and revered for kindness faithfulness and good work. Funeral held at family residence with Rev Griffith officiating and burial at Oakland cemetery.

Dr G W Farver Dies While Visiting

Dr G W Farver died after a period of illness while visiting his brother in law Wilbert Blue. He had practiced with Dr Lockreage and later with Dr Newhouse before moving among Seymour Hammond and later Hammond Indiana, dying at age 69. He is survived by his wife Lucy and other relatives. The funeral was held at the Blue residence with Rev Prentice officiating. burial at Oakland cemetery. An obituary is promised for next week.

Airplane Visit Attracts Town Residents

Two aircraft from Hen favored the area with a Saturday visit. About ten in the morning they circled over the town, landed in a field east of town, drawing a rush of men, women and children. Several residents took short rides before the planes departed westward later that evening.

New Night Watch in Montezuma Guards Town

Byron Darling assumed night watch duties Saturday night for the first time. The community had been without a night watch for a period and hopes the new patrol will deter robbers and marauders from sneaking around and entering homes. Residents will be closely watched and pursued if found prowling.

Expensive Coon Sparks Wingate Game Fines

Wingate residents face fines after game warden Walter Hoenig fined Hoyt Blacker and Haskel Renick 528.50 each for possessing wild game. Renick released the coon, while Blacker and Renick plan to hunt it again when season opens. Others, Fred Bible Firman Kochell and Guy Kerr, were fined for a penned fox. The Wingate News notes this begins a campaign to enforce game laws.

Obituary of Mrs Hannah Morris Resident of Chrisman

Aged woman Mrs Hannah Morris died Saturday at her son James H Morris home after a three week illness. She came to Chrisman in August to visit family and suffered paralysis. Despite care and medical aid she passed away at eighty years old. Her husband died earlier. Obituary next week.

Two Damage Suits Filed Against Railroad Director

Attorney W. Bert Conley filed two damage suits in the Vermilion circuit court against Walker D. Hines director general of railroads. Plaintiffs Willis Bonebrake and Daniel Norman seek 5 000 each for alleged wrongful stopping at Clinton instead of West Montezuma after wintering in Vicksburg. Plaintiffs had wintered in 1918 and returned April 1919, with tickets to West Montezuma.
