A Boston paper claimed an upcoming winter would be the coldest and snowiest in New England history. The Weather Bureau denies responsibility for such statements and notes no reliable long range forecasts exist. Meteorologists worldwide agree long-range seasonal predictions are not yet possible.
A marriage license was issued in Newport for William Fortner and Edith McFall both of Hillsdale. Fortner works as a brick yard laborer. A Lake Truck daily delivery trip halted after a broken leg incident involving an interurban vehicle.
Montezuma High School for the coming season arranges a demanding schedule of twenty games. Coach Rees fields a small but strong squad as the Tigers plan to face top grade teams in Parke and Vermillion counties, including Clinton Juniors in an early matchup.
The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago invites young men and women to join its free Evening Classes while working by day. The Employment Bureau helps place students in regular jobs. Director Rev. P. B. Fitzwater, D. D., leads the program with a proven record in Sunday School lessons. Currently 745 students, including 315 men and 430 women, are enrolled.
Members of the M. E. church at Hillsdale gave Rev. J. C. Whitson and family a pleasant surprise Tuesday evening. A large gathering brought food and comforts, and a social hour followed. The parson and family express thanks and say you are always welcome.
The Senior team won 22 to 17 over the Sophomores. McMasters led the Seniors with 6 field goals and 6 fouls drawn, while Forrest contributed 4 field goals and 3 fouls. Keller stood out for floor and pass work.
Mr. C. G. Powell purchases a new Chevrolet coupe from the Shalley agency. A union evangelistic campaign is planned for November in Clinton. Mr. C. H. King of Indianapolis visits Montezuma to handle business and greet friends. Captain King plans Rex showroom remodeling to seat 400 with stage and dressing rooms. theatre will remain open during work.
Friday night final game decides the High School title with a curtain raiser featuring Tigers versus Sophomores. Seniors face Juniors in the decisive match after two Wednesday night games. The listed lineups include Tigers Holt Seely Riddle Riley Garret and Thomas. Freshmen Manwaring D Forrest Johns Wells Glaze and Ingram. Sophomores K Forrest Keller Daniel Johns. Juniors Clary Burns Machin Lindly Esker. Seniors McMasters Runion Daniel and Myers. The event promises a strong showcase and invites student support, with the B B season opening November 2 against Newport in the local gym.
The Freshmen defeated the Grades in a varsity style game. Lineup for the Freshmen included Glaze Ingram Johns and Wells with the 8s suffering the loss.

Abash Township plastering crew completed work on the pew al building and left for Logansport. The Logansport State Sunday School convention was held in Indianapolis. Thelma McDowell spent time here while John Phipps’s death prompted Mrs Catherine Noyes to travel to Canute Kansas. Martha Shalley planned a short visit from Rock to Mecca Vermillion for a permanent move. Elmo Vestal’s surprise birthday social was held Saturday evening.
Mrs Pendegast and Mrs Wildren of Fairbury Nebraska visited Mr and Mrs Joe Tucker for the weekend staying with them at their home.
The Girls Club of the Christ ai Sunday school met at Miss Esther Hann's home Wednesday night. The Good Cheer Bible class will provide the song service at the M E Church Sunday evening. The pastor will preach Life. All are invited to attend.
