Rockville Beechwood Park To Host Homecoming For Soldiers

October 9th will be a big Beechwood Park day in Rockville as county soldiers are honored guests. A morning parade will feature ex service members who may ride in autos rather than march, followed by a dinner for all veterans. Thirty township committees will coordinate transportation and seating on thirteen tables as the county closes schools for the event.

Diverse afternoon program features at Montgomery event

Wits DP Montgomery will preside with Lt Prentice giving the invocation and Mrs I R Sanford directing the musical program. Hon Howard Maxwell speaks as the day’s address, followed by attractions costing 1000 and 850 dollars. The lineup includes vaudeville acts, a dog show, and the Scott Sisters in a globe act, with ten distinct performances and a full day of music and entertainment.

Burns Return Visit From Chicago To Montezuma

Mr and Mrs Burns of Chicago, former Montezuma residents, visited the town briefly. Mr Burns works a steady paying business in Chicago and enjoyed renewing old friendships and landmarks during the stop, remaining a member of the Enterprise family.

Lyceum Entertainers to Open at Montezuma Opera House

Lyceum presents first program Wednesday evening October 1 1919 at 8 PM in the Montezuma Opera House. Rano the Great Magician and his assistant appear on the date. Admission 25 cents for children 40 cents for adults 60 cents for reserved seats. Season tickets good for three numbers 60 cents children and $1.00 adults with seats reserved at Murdocks Drug Store starting Saturday morning October 4. Committee.

The War horse Kidron, carried Pershing in Europe, remains in five month quarantine at Newport News under government veterinary care. Despite public desire to have him in Washington for the Sept 17 parade, the Agriculture Department refuses to bend rules to protect U.S. livestock from potential horse diseases.

Andrew Phillips born June 1 1856 in Montezuma Parke County Indiana moved to Crowley Louisiana in 1894 later settling in Jennings in 1900 and living there until his death The clipping notes he resided in Jennings at the time of passing with missing details due to clipping.

Funeral Rites for Resident Held at Lake Arthur Ave

Funeral services were held for a Jennings resident at a home on Lake Arthur Avenue with Rev Maulk of the Methodist church officiating. The Jennings Male Chorus sang as family and friends paid respects. burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery. The deceased, married to Almeda Bradley since 1879, left four children, three grandchildren, and siblings across Indiana, Oklahoma, California.

State July death causes rise in Indiana totals

In July Indiana reported 9138 deaths from ten causes. Tuberculosis accounted for 263, cancer 253, external causes 226, pneumonia 55, typhoid fever 28, diphtheria and croup 20, influenza 12, measles 1, and scarlet fever 1. Parke county recorded five deaths, Vermillion county four, with pneumonia, cancer and external causes among the listed causes.
