VirgIL Kennedy Dies in Clay Plant Accident
Virg il Kennedy aged 17 died from suffocation after being buried under twenty tons of clay at the Southern Fire Brick and Clay Plant. He was there seeking work and was talking with George Koos on the third floor when the clay shifted. Deputy Coroner W D Gerrish held an inquest and the body was returned to the Kennedy home as the town mourns.

Boy Killed By Train While Gathering Coal
Albert Walker two of Hillsdale was instantly killed Friday evening when struck by a northbound passenger train while gathering coal along the C and EI tracks near the National Drain and Tile Plant. He was nearly deaf and apparently did not hear the train. Witnesses were the train crew. Coroner Ragan said he had a broken neck and multiple injuries. Survived by his widow. Funeral at the residence Sunday officiated by Rev Claude McDowell. Burial in Oakland Cemetery. O L Brown and Son were undertakers.
