The M. E. Aid Society hosts a rummage sale in front of the Sharp store from Monday May 28 to Saturday June 2 with a Market event on the final day.
A large Saturday night crowd heard Rev W W Griffith discuss the Ku Klux Klan in Bloomingdale. He traced the group's history from before the Civil War, outlined its aims, and described membership requirements including native born white Gentile Americans and adherence to Christian faith and constitutional principles.
A public meeting featured officials taking oaths to support the U S and state constitutions and enforce laws. Speakers urged pure womanhood, 100 percent Americanism, immigration limits, and closer labor capital ties. The Catholic church was criticized for actions not aligned with government, while race remarks were tempered with respect. Cards seeking further information were signed. women were invited to join the Kamelia branch.
Several families from this neighborhood attended a meeting at Olivet last week. Wilson Jackson was in Indianapolis last week. Mr and Mrs Almon DeBaun and children visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs Chas DeBaun. Mr and Mrs John Grimes and daughter and Beulah Norman visited Mrs Jane Harvey Sunday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Pete Evans spent Sunday with John Kesner Sr and family. Mrs Lizzie Bowsher spent Sunday with Edgar Harvey and family. Mr and Mrs John Bean and children spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Marian Gilkison.
Raymond S. Payton and Ethel McCarty were married on Wednesday May 16 at the Methodist parsonage by Rev J C Whit 500. The bride, daughter of Mrs Otha York of Clinton, is a Clinton High School graduate and has taught four years in Clinton Township. The groom, son of Mr and Mrs Lon Payton of this place, is a brakeman on the C I W railroad. They will set up housekeeping at once in the McGinty property on South Washington Street, which the groom furnished. Both are described as prominent, accomplished young people receiving hearty congratulations.
Happy Corner reports Mr. and Mrs. H B Van Sickle and Mrs. John Featherston in Clinton Tuesday. Ralph Manwaring has the measles. Margarite and Susie Featherston were Bloomingdale shoppers Tuesday. William Alexander of Marshall called on Cal Bartlow Friday. Cal Bartlow family visited Golie Woods Friday. John Featherston and family visited Thomas Featherston and wife Sunday.
The Rockville Chautauqua lineup features Mr Harendranath Maitra born in Calcutta India. He speaks multiple languages and lectures on eastern civilizations and religions. His session covers The Life of Tut Apkh Amen and The New Turkey.
Joseph H. Hancock is appointed administrator with the will annexed of the estate of Henry A. Chambers in Parke County Indiana. The court notes the estate is supposed to be solvent and the appointment was made by the Circuit Court on May 4, 1923.
A fire early Tuesday destroyed most stock and goods at J and Church store in Clinton. A man suffered facial and hand burns while fighting the blaze. the office is unidentified. Death reported of W J Main at Hutchinson Kansas, a veteran former resident. A new weekly paper, Permislion County Gentral Union, is launched with Rufus H Simpson as editor.
Mrs Belle Osborn and daughter Sarah of Newport visited Mrs R L Dooley on Friday. A large crowd filled town Saturday night with merchants busy and a good level of business reported.
