Elmer Lewis and Nelle Wright eloped to Charleston last Thursday and wed. The couple plans to settle on a farm near Bourbon, with many friends offering best wishes. Nelle Wright is Albert Wright’s daughter, a prominent local farmer related to Wright of Galton.
A. M. Daniels bakery and restaurant in Hillsdale burned around 2 o clock Monday, destroying stock fixtures and the building. Loss estimated near 2000 with 1200 insurance. building valued around 500 and uninsured. Town considers water works and hydrants to boost fire protection amid calls for public improvements. Dana suffered larger losses totaling about 75000 with 30000 insurance. electric pumping and water mains urged for prevention.
The charity fund of about $230 was allocated by the distribution committee to meet essentials. When a family faced hunger cold or lack of clothing the committee supplied food clothing or coal. Some funds remain and the permanent committee will continue to assist those in need as time goes on.
Merchants report a fair Christmas trade with gift goods selling well though several laborers are unemployed now. Plants expect to resume work when weather allows and operations return to full strength. The shutdown reduced holiday trade from peak levels.

Word was received Wednesday morning of the death of Richard Calla at his home in Indianapolis. He had been ill for some time. Mr. Calla and family were well known here, having spent several years in this place.
Alvin Featherston died at his aunt Mrs. John Weaver's home in Montezuma after illness. The 23 year old son of Patrick Featherston leaves a father and brothers. Funeral services were held at Mrs. Weaver's home, then Linebarger chapel, with Rev. A B Simpson and interment at Linebarger cemetery.
Miss Mary Reid of Indianapolis spent Christmas with her parents Mr and Mrs P L Reid.
