A large crowd estimated at 2000 gathered as 160 000 tickets were drawn from a revolving box in front of the post office. A blindfolded child announced each winning ticket while officials memed prizes. The Boosters extend New Year greetings to patrons.
About forty neighbors gathered Friday night to surprise Mrs. Bert Van Sickle for her birthday. Emmett Crabb and Charles Nickle provided music as gifts and mementos were exchanged. Attendees included John Featherston John Weaver James Dale and families, Alvin Cox and daughter, and other local residents.
The Enterprise features columns on the Parcels Post Law set to take effect January 1. The paper urges readers to study and keep this issue for future reference. Earl Plank brings home a new title for the holidays to share with his parents.
Wm Chumley, last seen in West Union, allegedly faked bank checks to withdraw money. He identified by Prior Warner at a First National Bank, cashed two forged checks for 50 and 75 dollars drawn on Ed Carter and Jesse Sanders, then fled toward Chicago with his small son.
The Montgom ery High School and Grades showcase Thursday evening December 19 under Prof. J. G. Hirsbrunner and his teachers. The work of several classes is commended. Montezuma should be proud of its schools. An exhibit will return in the Spring and should be attended by all with interest in schools.
The Montezuma Dancing Club held a Xmas Dance in Montgomery Hall on Friday night December 20. The program had sixteen numbers with encores thanks to music by Turner and Thomas of Terre Haute. Refreshments of sandwiches pickles coffee and cake were served by club ladies. Out of town guests included Miss Verna Stoner Greencastle Miss Louise Turner Newport Claude Ingram James Saxton Vermillion County William McIntosh and wife Clipton and Mr and Mrs Ergenbright North Salem.
A charity list signed by 40 citizens from Reserve Township raises 62.30 to aid Mrs. Clark and children after Clark died suddenly at work. Funeral costs total 50 and phone expenses 2.20, the rest goes to the widow. The note praises communal spirit and notes no main order houses contributed.
The three rooms led by Miss Hazel Cheesewright Mrs Gertrude Cooke and Miss Mellie Linebarger presented an afternoon program last Friday drawing a large crowd. Students performed well trained parts reflecting credit on their teachers and organizers with many locals attending the event.
Allan Cleaver spent the holidays with friends at Kokomo. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Burks visited Indianapolis Thursday. Mrs. Gus Baily was guest of her son in Decatur Illinois for Christmas. Frank Mathas and wife were Christmas guests of relatives at Clinton. Lawyer McFadden of Rockville was down for one day last week on legal business for Mrs. R. G. Murphy.
