A reflective poem recalls youth and lost companionship. The speaker questions what one would trade to regain youth yet answers that each morning brings new hope and fulfillment through meaningful work and cherished memories.
Tuesday noon Mrs. Duke Birch suffered a sprained arm when a horse driven buggy backed into a ditch after fright from an auto driven by G Powell and F A Cole on the way to the brick plant. Passengers were taken to Dr Dooley's office for attention.
John Luce, 72, was killed when a 4:45 passenger train struck him near Hillsdale while he and Harry Steward rode a speeder to Hillsdale after work at Drain Tile Plant. Steward escaped. Luce died instantly. Luce served in Co. D 85 Indiana Infantry and is survived by a widow two sons and two daughters.
John Norman of Vermillion county received by express a fine set of deer antlers from a deer killed by his father Daniel Norman near Midnight, Miss. The antlers are described as fine specimens and will be mounted for a coat and hat rack.
The Montezuma Minstrels gave a Friday night program to a full house with many turned away for lack of seating. The ensemble, led by Mr W P Montgomery and others, performed Dixie Nellie Gray and My Pretty Queen of Tennessee with strong solos by Laverty Newhouse Aikman Reeder, plus comic interludes and a grand finale. The Astrobilt Hotel scene in Skinwall Ohio featured night clerk Montgomery and tired bellhops. the Rockville Orchestra provided music and the group earned praise and Christmas Cheer fund support.
The C. and E. I. railroad company unloaded lumber for an overhead bridge at the end of the grade Friday. The partially cleared site suggests work could begin soon on this much needed improvement.
The Xmas Cheer committee says the fund will exceed 300 dollars and there are 300 to 400 children requesting help. They will distribute to the needy and deserving poor with careful selection and invite calls if any child was missed.
Due to demand a second performance of the minstrel show is set for Friday January 9 1914. The full identical production returns with the same cast, songs, and settings. Tickets go on sale 2 30 pm Saturday January 3 1914 at the First National and Citizens Banks with reservations at Corner Drug Store at 3 30 pm. Proceeds fund future charity productions.
The Montezuma Minstrels report a request from the Rockville Opera House for a January booking. The manager will present the proposal to the troupe for discussion before replying.

Mae McKeown returns home for holidays from Mecca schools while Edward Hancock flies to Indianapolis. Dozens travel for Christmas, including Dr O A Newhouse in Greencastle and Fred Higbee's family to Indianapolis, with others visiting Terre Haute and Chicago over the season.
