A Chicago Record-Herald poem warns that fear of publicity tempts people to abandon honesty and steadiness. Reporters seeking sensational stories could erode faithfulness among leaders, making life less virtuous as names may appear in bad or good light on front pages.
The Red Cross Seals drive began this week led by Mrs. R. L. Dooley. Citizens are urged to buy seals to combat tuberculosis locally. Seal price is one cent each and each purchase funds efforts against consumption.
The Town Council met in regular session Thursday night and disposed of the routine business. This was the last regular meeting of the year and in 1914 the new council members will take their seats.
From the wilds near Highland Ira Jackson arrived Saturday aiming to drink away Montezuma’s dry territory. He became so intoxicated his legs failed and a marshal placed him in the new steel jail cells. He was kept there until he wandered back to the jungle origin.
The town faces a spike in freight car robberies and thefts as articles vanish from way cars and thieves tap nail kegs. Despite a dry town, authorities warn of intensified criminal activity ahead of the local option election.
Messrs R W Johnston and Edward Hancock and Misses Hildegard Haspel and Grace Oldshue held a bowling contest at the Pool alleys Monday night and rolled up mammoth scores. A pleasant evening was reported.

December 4th marked Mrs Dan Carter's 58th birthday with a mid afternoon gathering. The celebration featured well filled baskets and a large dining table enjoyed after a storm.
Mrs. Alice Morran of Indianapolis died Tuesday night. Her remains were shipped to the Underwood home and then to Linebarger’s Chapel for 12:30 services and burial in the Chapel cemetery.
In Parke county six towns are surveyed with two having lower tax rates than Montezuma. Rosedale at $2.42 and Marshall at $2.84 are below Montezuma, while Rockville leads at $3.55 and Bloomingdale at $3.12. Judson is $2.94, Montezuma $2.87, marking several years of low levies and solid finances as the old board prepares to pass a ready budget to the new one.

Paul and Carl Maxwell received by express last week a Christmas present from their uncle Jim Bailley of Fitzgerald Ga a fine bulldog. He came well dressed with collar and harness. The boys are very proud of him. Mr and Mrs M F Cheek of Taylorsville Ky came the first of the week for a few days visit with Mr and Mrs Al Sharp and other relatives. Mr Cheek reports the tobacco crop in that section light but of excellent quality. The grain crop suffered from the dry weather.
