Montezuma upset Newport 20 9 last Wednesday as the locals held Newport scoreless in the first half and led 11 0 at halftime. Burns led Montezuma with 12 points while Stewart and Nichols scored for Newport.
Rex Theatre showcases top attractions this week. Friday and Saturday present Dororothy Phillips in Slander the Woman, a First National drama, plus Paul Parrott Comedy Bowled Over. Also showing Mrs. Wallace Reid in Human Wreckage with a large supporting cast, endorsed by civic groups. Added Carter DeHaver comedy A Long Shot. Special music. Admission 10 and 25 cents, 10 and 30 cents.
Mrs. R. W. Johnston entertained the Industrial Society of the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon with thirty members present. Plans and arrangements for the upcoming bazaar and supper were discussed, followed by social time and refreshments. Several members were absent for unavoidable reasons.
Montezuma edged Rockville 22 to 21 after a tense game that saw a 17-9 halftime lead for Rockville. Manwaring led Montezuma with 10 points while Frybarger paced Rockville with four field goals as the locals rallied in the second half. Substitutions and defensive pressure defined the moments as Montezuma finally broke through their rival this season. The game clock ran 20 minute periods with Stall officiating.
Montezuma routed Green Township 42 27 on Saturday night led by Manwaring and McMasters who controlled the floor. Cunningham stood out for Green Township as their only reliable scorer while Green’s baskets were mostly long attempts against Montezuma’s defense. Green Township fought well in its first basketball season, with the first half ending 29 16.
On Wednesday evening November 28 a birthday party was held at Mrs Mary Warner's home for her daughter Thelma marking her 18th birthday. Green Township defeated Montezuma 11 to 10 in a curtain raiser. Gosnell led with all 10 Green Township points while Cunningham had 11 for Green Township and the first half tied 6 to 6 on a three court floor with six players.
Montezuma faces Bellmore at the local gym Friday December 7 in a tight matchup as the teams split the dope bucket. Bellmore starts at 7 30 pm with admission 10 15 and 25 cents. Montezuma has won 3 of 4 games, aiming for a fourth straight win.
Promoters announce revival meetings beginning December 9 at an inn garage building led by Sister P Harrell and a group of workers. They invite pastors and congregations to attend, promising soul stirring music and spiritual renewal to inspire the community and lift burdens.
In Montgomery Hall on Friday night November 30 the Knights of Pythias and Pythia Sisters hosted their first annual game supper with music readings pantomime and drills. Guests included four Newport Knights and attendees from Clinton plus over two hundred people enjoyed rabbit chicken oyster dressing salads pies cakes and coffee.
The Newport lodge Knights of Pythias conferred the Esquire rank on three pages during Monday night rites. The Dodge Inn interior freshly painted last week.
