A West Monroe man Ernest Causey 25 died from a broken neck after diving into shallow Chenicre lake during a family fishing trip. An infant Wesley Eugene Benton son of Mr and Mrs John W Benton Monroe apparently suffocated between bed and wall at home. State police reported a quiet weekend with only a few minor wrecks and drunk driving incidents. Funeral services for Causey were set at 4:30 p.m. at Luna Church.

Black farmhand surrenders after five day manhunt in Mississippi
Vernon Armstrong, a 32 year old Black farmhand, surrendered at his brother’s home after a five day search near the Monroe Willis farm in Mississippi.
