CAPE KENNEDY Fla AP a new communications satellite named Lani Bird rolled into orbit from Cape Kennedy and could be positioned over the Pacific this week as the first commercial space link between North America and the Far East. The satellite built by Hughes and funded by Comsat will relay radio TV telephone facsimile and teletype between North America Hawaii Australia the Philippines Japan and Thailand. It will also serve Apollo communications and may broadcast Vietnam battlefield scenes live within months.
