Mexican Held in Kirby Death
A 20 year old Mexican Texan, Alberto Jackson of Latoya, Tex, is held for investigation of negligent homicide in the hit and run death of Monroe truck driver Henry S. Kirby. Kirby died Tuesday after a truck side swiped his car on DeSiard street at 6 PM Monday. Jackson, in charge of 75 Mexican nationals, was arrested by state police after the accident and confined to parish jail pending coroner’s inquest set for 2 PM Thursday. Witnesses said Kirby’s head was out the car window when struck. the truck quickly fled. Jackson claimed he did not know he killed anyone and that he was scared. The wreck piece matched a damaged truck found nearby. bond to be set after inquest.

Motive Sought in Pontotoc Taxi Driver Slaying
In Pontotoc Mississippi Sheriff M C Hembree probes motive in the murder of taxi driver Mack Montgomery 26. Talmadge Dowdy 21 a Pontotoc county farmer is charged with murder and held in Lee County jail Tupelo. Virginia Johnson a Tupelo laundry checker is questioned as no charges against her. The shooting occurred shortly after midnight on a country road near Dowdy’s mother's home. Montgomery was shot seven times and found across the back of the front seat of his taxi abandoned on the outskirts of Pontotoc. Dowdy and Johnson rode a Tupelo taxi to Tupelo after being picked up in Pontotoc around 1 am and Dowdy was arrested about 3 am yesterday.

Drowned Hamburg man still missing near Ouachita river
