Washington October 22 The Maritime Commission orders minimum monthly wages from 35 to 390 for officers and crew on 155 federally subsidized merchant vessels effective November 1. The plan covers 10 000 men from bell boys to licensed engineers with added board lodging and improved living standards. Chairman Joseph P Kennedy cites seamen complaints about low wages vermin infestations and unventilated quarters and says discipline issues also hurt passenger service.

Wounds Fatal to Guard at Brushy Mountain Prison
