Congressional negotiators report agreement on the year’s final spending measure and send it to the House for a vote. The package includes a controversial foreign policy provision and could clear the way for Congress to adjourn this session tonight.
Washington AP Congress sent to President Johnson a 3.97 billion authorization for three years to fund colleges and universities. Senate backed the measure by voice vote after the House passed it 222 to 13. The package funds undergrad facilities, graduate centers, student loans, and academic construction, with allocations for junior colleges and smaller institutions.
In Aberfan Wales a coal tip collapsed onto a village, burying a school and houses. Police report 32 dead, 26 children and six adults, with about 100 children and 30 adults missing. Miners joined the rescue as the tip, described as a glacier like slide, moved still four hours after onset.
BATON ROUGE The Louisiana Commission on Reapportionment met in executive session to finalize a plan for redistricting the House and Senate ahead of the 1967 elections. Chairman Rep James Leake said the group expected to stay behind closed doors all day and hoped for a final plan this afternoon. The plan will shape multi parish districts with Ouachita Parish likely merged with others and not split. Gov. McKeithen plans a November 28 special session to reapportion both houses on a population basis.
Joe Wagner advertising and promotion director of the Louisiana Tourism Commission was in serious condition at Baton Rouge General Hospital with a bullet wound. The 28 year old was shot early Thursday when his wife mistook him for a prowler. police called it an accident and said both parties reported it as such.

Jack Marion Reighney 55 of 103 Mallard St West Monroe died early today at Glenwood Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services tentatively set for 4 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Presbyterian Church with burial in Hasley Cemetery. Survivors include his widow Rosalie Hutson Reighney, three sons, a daughter, a brother, a sister, and his mother.
Oxford Mississippi report says U.S Commissioner Will Lewis dismissed complaints against 13 men arrested last month on conspiracy charges tied to racial violence during Grenada school integration. Four of the five men still facing trial were among the 13, and the action does not affect those cases. U.S. Attorney H. M. Ray called the dismissal routine.

Washington AP The Air Force ordered squadrons to stop flying civilian gifts of food and clothes to South Viet Nam for American GIs and homeless Vietnamese due to tight cargo space from the Viet Nam war. The June 3 directive also rules out a Christmas airlift to U S troops this year.
Laotian air force planes bombed multiple military installations around Vientiane for about 30 minutes amid a clash between the air force commander Brig. Gen. Thao Ma and army leaders. At least 11 people were killed and three injured. T28 fighters supplied by the United States attacked Phone Khene and Chinaimo camps and Wattay Airport as the emergency cabinet met and Leuam Insisienmay urged calm.
