Gangster chief Moran long sought by authorities was captured at a lake country resort and jailed as a common vagrant. Bond set at 50000. the arrest aims to bring him under Chicago authorities.
George Bugs Moran, sought since the Alfred J. Lingle murder, told reporters in Wallkegan that police do not want him badly. He claimed he was at Chicago city hall last week and spoke with acquaintances, suggesting authorities were not straining to catch him.

Waycross Georgia October 21 a confession was secured from Jim Parker husband of Mrs Jim Johns Parker and alleged common law wife Cora Hazen in the murders of Parker and their 18 month old daughter The bodies were found buried in a pea field near the Parker home west of Waycross warrants charged Parker and Hazen with the crime The case drew high emotions in the community and a continuation note indicated on page seven
In Windsor Ontario early today a speeding beer runner rammed and overturned a duck hunt skiff on the upper Detroit River opposite Riverside. One man, William Blockson of Detroit, drowned. Oscar LaForest of Riverside survived but exposed and missing Blockson’s body remained unrecovered.
New York reports American astronomers on Tin Can island in the south Pacific will witness a 93 second total solar eclipse today October 21 observing the atom dance. Spectroscopes and photographic plates record light showing atom masses, with solar atoms vibrating more than terrestrial ones due to space curvature near the sun.
Yvonne Le Blanc a 22 year old Toledo dancer is wounded in the thigh in Los Angeles. She says gangster husband Max Goff followed her from Toledo, forced entry into her apartment, threatened to return, and fired a shot that missed. She is hospitalized and recovering.
Alfred Gwin 54 longtime West Baton Rouge parish assessor and former clerk of court died at his Brusly home after an acute indigestion attack. He served a third term as parish assessor and had chaired the parish Democratic executive committee. He led flood relief work in 1927 with the Red Cross and earlier held Red Men leadership.
Claude Hall 28 dies in Palestine Texas from injuries after an explosion wrecked two business houses. Moser and daughter Marie 19 burned and bruised but expected to recover. Gas cocks were closed and no gas escape found. Hall had just finished a gas meter installation and said gas had been shut off.
Five Phoenix men are missing in Arizona forests. E. J. Abrahams H. B. Nichols and Jack Buzard were last seen in Sitgreaves forest south of Springerville after leaving Phoenix last week. A search is under way.
Four people were arrested by the local sheriff after a shooting yesterday afternoon about five miles west of West Monroe on the Dixie Overland highway. Principal figures Jack Houck and Clarence Wall were charged with shooting with intent. Also held were Mrs Leona Holloman and Dock Burke, Houck's nephew.
Sheriff Milton Coverdale announced a partial solution to the robbery and kidnapping of Joe Smith, a store operator on the Sterlington road. A young white man named W. R. Webb was arrested and identified by Smith as one of the robbers after confessing his part. A $5 check was taken at the time.
The Louisiana and Arkansas Railway asked the Interstate Commerce Commission for authority to issue 550000 dollars in six percent short term promissory notes and to renew its 1700000 dollar note due Chase National Bank of New York. The road offered first mortgage five percent bonds as security for the new notes.
Harvey G. Fields of Farmerville won the Democratic nomination for public service commissioner from the third district of north Louisiana in the second primary last week by 635 votes over Rovian D. Hendrick, with official returns promulgated by the secretary of state.
A mistrial was declared in Laurel circuit court in the Strand Amusement company blue laws case. The jury, after 15 hours of deliberation, failed to reach a verdict on charges of operating Sunday picture shows without admission fees. The trial began yesterday and involved eight indictments against the Strand company and three officers. Further trials were not yet announced.
The first annual meeting of the Merchant Minute Men of America opens in Shreveport for a three day session with John A. Cunningham of Dubuque Iowa as president. Speakers include Governor Huey P. Long Mayor L E Thomas KWKH owner W K Henderson and former Governor Charles H. Brough of Arkansas. Twenty four states are represented.
The Little Rock grain exchange Pine Bluff grain exchange and Southern Feed and Flour of Helena asked the Interstate Commerce Commission for a rehearing on the grain and grain products rate case. They say the commission erred in setting the new rate on mixed feed and warn enforcement would be disastrous.
The Morehouse parish grand jury in Bastrop is due to render its report on the shooting of Mrs. J. D. Overby of Galion. The panel has heard 20 witnesses by noon and plans eight to nine more this afternoon. Mrs. Overby’s husband is held as a suspect.
George Forseth a longtime post office assistant in Washburn Wis fatally attacked his wife and four children with a hammer and slashed his own throat. The victims include Mrs Forseth 45 Neil 10 George 9 William 9 and Adelaide 5. Police say he appeared to have sudden insanity.
Government prepared to argue before the supreme court the community property case affecting thousands of married couples in Washington Texas Louisiana and Arizona. Government contends income tax must be paid by the husband on community income with one return. Lower courts allowed separate returns saving taxpayers money.
In New Orleans on October 21 Arthur Lake a 22 year old black burglary suspect was captured after a street chase with police. A police riot squad motorcycle was burned and shots were fired during the pursuit. Lake was taken into custody with a slight wound.
Minneapolis starts a 1 million dollar effort to employ at least 12 000 unemployed with a winter work plan. Boston seeks 3 million dollars for relief funds and public subscriptions. Philadelphia launches a buy now campaign praised by tradesmen with interest from Camden and nearby cities.
Hundreds of homeless men shivered as Bowery flop houses emptied them after a frugal breakfast. The first winter spell filled cheap lodging beyond capacity. The Municipal lodging house filled to capacity, 300 men housed on a steamboat moored in the East River. Since January, nearly 300,000 have found shelter at the Municipal lodging house, with totals rising as winter advances.
The civil service commission certified Samuel Y. Watson Anthony F. Caredessus and Charles F. Brown as eligible for appointment as postmaster in Baton Rouge Louisiana. President Hoover will name one of them to the position.
Berlin reports from October 21 indicate about 100 miners perished in the Anna coal mine blast at Alsdorf. A company director said it was impossible to estimate those still inside as communications are cut and air is pumped to the shafts to sustain potential survivors.
In Los Angeles on October 21 R L Dunn weighing 250 pounds attempted suicide by tying a rope to a light fixture and jumping from a chair. He then cut his throat slashed wrists and elbows, revived by doctors, later fighting detectives at his bedside. He is expected to recover.
