Paris October 21 Georges Clemenceau survived a heart attack and rallied with injections of campmor and oxygen after a night of severe breathing distress. Doctors warned another attack could occur but the former premier remained hopeful as he rested at 8 Rue Franklin, watched by his family.
Secretary Stimson announced that Senator Reed of Pennsylvania and Senator Robinson of Arkansas accepted posts as members of the American delegation to the London army conference in January. Chairman Borah was asked to serve but could not accept.
SHREVEPORT October 21 Thought to have dozed at the wheel while driving to Jonesville J M Nabors 75 of Manefield father of Mrs Ben Johnson and J B Nabors of Shreveport was seriously injured when his coupe left the road on a curve and turned over into a ditch near Luelin between Natchitoches and Montgomery according to reports.
The Ouachita Valley Boy Scouts council launches a $22,000 fundraising campaign to support the next year’s budget. Campaign chair J. Thompson and local leaders lead planning across Monroe and West Monroe districts. The drive runs through Saturday and aims to exceed last year’s six month effort.
Associated Press report from New Orleans details three deaths linked to violent incidents around a wake, fish fry, and drownings in Meraux and Algiers. Levi Tally and Ned Gray perished by drowning after a skiff capsize. Edward Gordy died from a bullet wound during a dispute over catfish prices. Emile Perrero was shot in the mouth in a separate daytime encounter. police sought a suspect named Calvin Summers.
The Prohibition Department shows 116 655 cases instituted in the fiscal year with 47 100 convictions, an increase of 1 700 from 1928, and fines totaling 7 476 300 up 173 000. The convicted include Fred Erwin Best and others linked to the National Proletarian Workers’ Union and various unions. Sentences await judge’s discretion, with terms from two years to prison.
Monroe members of the Louisiana state flood control committee returned from Washington after presenting to President Hoover a resolution calling for suspension of controversial features of the Boeuf and Atchafalaya floodways pending further surveys. In New Brunswick on October 22 William Geipel Jr aged 24 was stabbed to death in a grocery store after he reproved a man for profanity in front of a girl clerk. Police detained Angeles Castanato, 38, a four children father, as the alleged killer.

A band of unmasked men blew a 40 foot gap in the West Dixie Highway near Fort Lauderdale to release flood waters from two weeks of heavy rain. Northers swept into New Orleans early today driving the temperature down to 60 degrees, the coldest reading of the season. Forecasters predicted a low of 58 to 60 degrees tonight with fresh northerly winds along the coast.
A Brussels cable reports a Roman Catholic priest aboard a flight from Antwerp to Ghent absolved fellow passengers during a carburetor fire. The plane landed safely just before gasoline tanks exploded, destroying the aircraft.
W L Bagwell mayor of Oak Grove and former West Carroll parish state senator died at his home after several weeks of illness from typhoid fever. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev L E Brooks officiating. Interment in Oak Grove cemetery. Survived by wife and six children. 12 years resident of Oak Grove and noted for Red Cross chairmanship and civic work. He was elected mayor July 1 1028.
