In New Orleans and across Louisiana old factional bickering resurfaces as Rev. Gerald L. K. Smith denounces Governor Leche for a luxury sales tax tied to New Deal programs. Lt. Gov. Earl Long defends the tax while Smith vows to campaign statewide. Smith allies with ex governor Noe and targets a repeal of the tax and a disputed amendment for Maestri's tenure. Smith plans further stops in Alexandria, Arcadia, Monroe and Shreveport following a speech in Donaldsonville.

The Crosby and Paine rodeo begins Friday at Stovall Park with 40 plus cowboys and cowgirls performing in benefit shows for Ouachita Parish Tuberculosis and Public Health. Rides start 1 30 p m and 7 36 p m daily through Sunday. proceeds support a new sanatorium. Claude Harrison leads the rodeo committee with Captain G B Cooley as association president.
Time Fastest and two reporters Leo Kieran and Dorothy Kilgallen begin an all air trip aboard the Hindenburg on September 30. The group, travelling with New York World Telegram, journals leg by leg from Lakehurst to Frankfort Vienna Athens Alexandria and beyond. The trip is expected to take 21 days or less with layovers at notable stops including Manila Wake Island Midway and Newark before returning to New York.
The government lost appeals opposing reviews of loans for electric plants in eight Texas and Alabama cities. Duke Power’s case will be argued the week of November 3 after a review was promised. Texas Utilities and Alabama Power requested Supreme Court review without circuit court ruling.
Pittsburgh Oct 19. Steel workers move to form a national joint representative council with a Pittsburgh district council of about 125 employee representatives. E J Maloy of Carnegie-Illinois Steel mills in Duquesne Pa serves as president. District conferences will be held in Youngstown Ohio eastern Pennsylvania and Maryland before a national meeting. Proposals include a $1.25 daily raise a $5 minimum, 40 hour week, 30 hour hot mills, overtime pay time and a half, double time on Sundays holidays, and paid vacation after one year with two weeks after five.
In Dayton on October 19 six people died when their car collided with a fast St. Louis to New York passenger train at a rail crossing. Victims included Ollie May Hall Sallie Hunter Eileen McFadden Daniel McFadden John A Mangan and Ira Towles all residents of Dayton. Mangan Towles and McFadden died within hours of arrival at hospital. Towles spoke only his name and address before dying.
The second week of fall broadcasts from Northeast Center of Louisiana State University airs Tuesday at 1 am featuring Mangham High School students on KML. Mrs. J Hatch directs a five piece program including Bells of St Marys Girls trio cornet and piano solos violin and vocal pieces. The North east Center repeats Thursday at 1 am with a follow up program to be announced.
Charlie Frazier was re indicted for murder in a Louisiana penitentiary break in which a camp captain was killed three years ago. Judge Munson earlier quashed the prior murder count due to a juror's disqualification. a new jury re opened the case and he will be arraigned on the second indictment after extradition from Texas.
The fire department led by Chief Prank Roddy promotes a rodeo tour through northeast Louisiana with stops at Oak Grove Lake Providence and other towns featuring their truck and active promotion efforts.
Perry McKinley, a black truck driver for Tom Hicks Transfer of West Monroe, was treated at St Francis sanitarium for general bruises after his truck collided with a hearse near Arcadia. McKinley said the hearse, driven by a Black man, tried to pass a car as both vehicles moved in opposite directions. both vehicles were badly damaged and the hearse driver was taken to Arcadia for medical care.
J. Woodard of Dubach reported a theft from his parked car at Five Points. A thief took a suitcase containing four pairs of trousers two shirts some underwear and toilet articles during a five minute interval.

Rev J R Smith known as Rev Groaning Smith will preach at 7 30 PM Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church North Twenty Sixth and Breard in Monroe and on Wednesday at Zion Travelers Baptist Church Eleventh and Gramont Streets due to likely crowd demand.
Police report says a 1929 Nash owned by J J Ashley of Tallulah was stolen from the 400 block of DeLlard Street late Saturday night or early Sunday. Carl Mays of Oak Grove reported the theft after borrowing the car for a trip to Monroe. license No 580-390.
