NBC will debate Kennedy and Nixon with limited face to face events as ABCs Bill Shadel moderates a New York studio panel including Roscoe Drummond and CBS and NBC correspondents. A fifth debate option may air before election day, while Johnson Lodge talks surface for VP face offs in New York or Chicago. Concurrent reports describe Chiang Kai-shek awaiting a mainland revolt to hasten collapse of the Communist regime.
A five man military tribunal sentenced Zarba and seven Cuban invaders to death for landing with a 27 man group on Oriente Province. Five more Cubans were condemned to die at Santa Clara while 167 defendants received prison terms from 20 to 30 years. An American, Richard Pecoraro, was among those sentenced to varying penalties. Demonstrations and detentions accompanied the mass trials as foreign correspondents were restricted.

In Burlington Massachusetts Salvatore Salvatore described his brother Anthony as a happy go lucky man who enjoyed excitement and had not been heard from in a long time. The family said Anthony lived in Miami with his wife Mary Ann and daughter Susan four and had worked for a sugar company with Cuban travel tied to his job.
Kennedy outlines a defense stance on Quemoy and Matsu, arguing they are not essential to Formosa defense and warning against committing U.S. troops without allies. He cites Eisenhower and others, recalls 1958 protests, and suggests UN trusteeship or swaps as alternatives. He campaigns across New York, with wife Jacqueline joining in rallies and speeches.
