Arcadia La Oct 3 a Bienville grand jury returned true bills for homicide. McGarrity a Vernon parish lawyer formerly of Bienville, now Leesville was indicted for murder over a town marshal Howell killing in Arcadia. He had previous manslaughter conviction reversed on appeal due to erroneous admission of prior threats.
The court admits testimony on previous threats by the accused as admissible. Sheriff Barrie had McGarrity arrested by a Caddo officer in Leesville and jailed in Shreveport to await trial at the October Bienville district court. An assassination attempt occurred during his retirement, injuring him in the shoulder. he later moved to Leesville on bond.
Gov Manning of South Carolina arrives in Monroe Thursday night with a party studying boll weevils. Accompanied by Dr W R Dodson of State University, the group will tour Louisiana en route to Monroe. They plan to meet business leaders Friday morning at the Monroe hotel.
New York farmers tightened control of the milk supply on October 3 causing a further reduction in quantity available in the city. Dairymen are holding milk to push distributors to raise prices, with reports of thousands of gallons spilled during clashes with distributor workers.
New York October 3 police withdrew all officers from underground and elevated trains leaving only one officer per surface car. Shortly after the move three trains were attacked by strike sympathizers. one passenger was injured.
