Fire Destroys Oil and Gas Tanks at Port Arthur Plant
Eleven large tanks burned and three more were still alight at Texas Company’s refinery and storage area west of Port Arthur. In Hillsboro Oregon two 14 year old reform school boys terrorized northwest Oregon, killing state police officer Dale Courtney with a shotgun at an abandoned farmhouse. Henry Thomas O Day of Portland and John Wilson of Newberg were held for prior crimes. The youths fled in a stolen car, robbed a service station, fired at a motorist Cecil Chambers, and wrecked the Buick before surrender near Blaine. Chambers was unhurt but the case prompted charges against O Day and Wilson.

In Chicago at Lincoln Park, Bushman the 550 pound gorilla escaped for over two hours. A garter snake forced him back into his cage after keepers tried fruit and a baby alligator as decoys. Police guarded the scene as Edgar Robinson, his keeper, was bitten during the effort.
