He outlined eight factors for success including physical fitness, will to succeed, self sacrifice, vision, humility, initiative, faith, and keeping focus on the Son of God. A sweltering auditorium and a program of songs and benediction followed.

The Louisiana Press association board favored a pay-as-you-go campaign and opposed free publicity. They outlined plans for a publicity control bureau for weekly papers and named a five member committee to work with Governor Leche. A short course for newspapers was also approved for Baton Rouge on November 12 13.

Memorial day events in Monroe included a morning church service at St. Matthew’s led by Rev. M. F. Walsh, a 4:30 pm Memorial service at Riverview Burial Park with speaker S. E. Dodd, and grave decorations across local cemeteries by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. The post observed the holiday while the post office closed.

The Northeast Center of Louisiana State University awards 25 diplomas in its commercial department, the largest single department graduation this year. Superintendent E L Neville will award them with hopes to place most graduates before summer's end. 204 seventh grade grads and 185 Ouachita Parish Grammar School graduates also receive diplomas. A kitchen at the residence of J Smithson sustained slight damage Monday morning when wallpaper near an overheated gas range caught fire. Two units from the central fire station responded to the call.

Ouachita Potato Growers Invited to Rapides Meet
Irish potato growers in Ouachita parish are invited to a Tuesday 2 pm meeting at the Rapides parish office in Alexandria. W. M. Roark says an Agricultural Adjustment Administration rep will discuss a plan to buy the Irish potato surplus as prices collapsed from 3.50 to 0.15 per hundredweight. Cash allocations for Louisiana will be discussed at the meeting.

Body Identified After Mississippi River Find
The body of a white man found in the Mississippi River 25 miles above Vidalia has been identified as Dr. H. R. Townsden of Oakville Tennessee. Dr Townsden reportedly leaped from a Memphis river span on April 14 but a coroner jury said death was caused by a bullet wound to the head. Neck and three ribs were broken. The body was returned to Oakville for interment.

Monroe Seeks $1.9 Million for Utility Bonds and Bus Electrification
Monroe City Council adopts a resolution to issue up to 1.9 million dollars in public utility bonds to extend water light sewer systems and to electrify municipal bus lines. The plan covers a mortgage on utility properties and revenue pledges, with an election set for July 8 1937. The notice lists polling places and appointed election officials across Ouachita Parish.
