Maj. Gen. John Singlaub testified before the House Armed Services Subcommittee that withdrawing more than 30,000 U.S. troops from South Korea could invite a North Korean attack. He said most officers and Embassy officials shared the view, though he did not dispute U.S. policy. He was removed by Kent Carter after warning of the plan.

Washington AP Nixon states in the Frost interviews that he never believed Agnew could survive the charges that led to his resignation. He explains his stance on pardoning Ehrlichman and Haldeman and notes the 40 page DOJ case against Agnew detailing kickback payments. Agnew later pleaded no contest to tax evasion and was placed on probation. Agnew’s Crofton Md office said he would be away for two weeks with no comment.
