Tragedy at Horseshoe Lake Claims Three Lives Near Columbia
A Chevrolet touring car fell into Made By Farmer Davis lake two miles north of Columbia on the Monroe Columbia highway. Three youths and two girls were in the car. B L Mathis 28 Miss Ivey Smith 20 Miss Virgie Tillman 18 ½ and Miss Gertrude Hood 18 were in the party. Rescue efforts saved Miss Hood and one other survivor while Mathis Smith and Tillman perished. Scene drew 600 spectators as boats grappling hooks and a rescue train were rushed to the lake. Whittington rescued Miss Hood after she vanished under water.

Auto overturn injures Freneau Surgaine. finger amputated

Car Turns Over Injuring Two Girls on Calhoun Road
