A Red Cross war fund campaign is normally opened to support medical relief. Mercy funds are sought to aid wounded and displaced individuals, with organizers urging community donations and participation through local branches and events.
The American Red Cross begins a new fundraising drive of 100 million dollars endorsed by President Wilson and top leaders. The appeal aims to expand overseas and domestic relief as thousands join a one week effort to support military and civilian needs. Plans also announced for a 200 thousand dollar sanitarium in Shreveport with a private stock company to fund construction led by Dr E L Sanderson.
Geneva May 20. Former Emperor or Nicholas of Russia and his family have been offered exile in Romania or Switzerland. Reports in Vienna papers say the former czar has chosen to go to Switzerland.
