Amateur Radio League Delta Division Convention in Monroe

More than 500 amateur radio operators are expected for the American Radio Relay League delta division convention at Hotel Frances in Monroe. The two day event includes a dance, a Sunday banquet, and demonstrations on short wave radio equipment with Army and LSU representation.

Picnic Turns Into Snake Hunt At Northeast Junior College

When the Northeast Junior College staff left for a picnic to celebrate their All-American rating, a four zoology students led a snake hunting expedition from Riley camp. Armed with forked sticks they captured snakes, earning points toward their final grades, with reporters each earning one fourth point. Final score reached two and three fourths points per student.

Mrs. Irene Reid Noted 24 Years with News Star Staff

Young Men Enlisted in U S Army Here

The past week saw several local youths enlist for three year terms in the 49th Pursuit Group Air Corps. Enlistees include John Edward Brock 19 Lavaughn Doyle Cathey 21 Richard Lee Linder 22 Milton Allie Maddry 21 and Carlos Rials 23, sons and daughters listed with parents. Recruiting officer Staff Sergeant Harold B. McNemar announced the west palm beach base.

R. O. Pierce of Monroe was named president-elect of the Louisiana State Medical Dental and Pharmaceutical Association colored group during the state convention in New Orleans. Dr. E. D. Donnatte of Opelousas is acting president this year with Drs. S. D. Hill and M. W. Foster among attendees. Current executive board members will stay in office. Peanuts are described as groundnuts in Africa.

Keller Rites Will Be Today

J F Keller 4121 DeSiard Street died Saturday morning after a five month illness. Funeral at 3 p m Sunday at the residence with Rev Edward F Hayward officiating. Burial in Episcip Cemetery Bastrop. Pallbearers listed. He led Great Southern Life Insurance in Monroe and leaves a widow a daughter a son sisters a brother two grandchildren and a great grandchild.
