Washington May 17 Revised estimates from the department of agriculture place the July 1 cotton area in cultivation at 49,905,000 acres and picked at 40,138,000 acres. The lint yield per acre is 154.5 pounds, with total linted cotton at 12,955,009 equivalent 500-pound bales. Ginnings of the 1927 crop totaled 12,950,473 equivalent 600-pound bales per census. Compared to 1926, area planted rose from 48,730,000 to 49,905,000 acres while harvested area fell from 47,087,000 to 40,138,000?

Ruston grocer narrowly escapes as wall drops on store
Rufus G. Frazier, a Ruston grocer, and eight workmen on the Kidd Astor theatre project narrowly escape injury when forty feet of the north wall of Frazier’s brick store collapses into a four foot foundation ditch. Frazier was outside. eight workers fled to safety as the wall tumbled. The remaining wall section was pulled down under contractor C. E. Andrews. Frazier’s stock and fixtures were $3,000. the building and property owned by G. A. Adams valued at about $6,000.
