A storm surge or wave event yesterday widened Hymelia Break near New Orleans causing significant shoreline damage and threats to nearby property. Local authorities urged precaution as crews assess the extent of the impact.
The Mississippi River Commission agreed to spend $100000 to close the Hymelia crevasse if local property owners cover half the costs. The break near Killona, 55 miles from New Orleans, is reported six hundred feet wide and faces uncertain prospects for closure.
Reports from U S engineers describe a break in the east Mississippi levee near Nestor about 55 miles below the city that damaged oyster beds at Breton Sound inlets. The session adjourns and plans a program for Governor Hall’s inauguration with oath, address, and reception at the Istrounia Hotel.

The Woman's Auxiliary to the Southern Baptist Convention held its meeting in Oklahoma City with delegates from eighteen states. The treasurer reported Southern women saved 156,846 dollars for foreign missions, 97,557 dollars for home missions, and over 500,000 dollars for training schools.
Hattiesburg Mississippi May 15 posses with bloodhounds continue their chase for two highwaymen who robbed the New Orleans New York express car on the New Orleans and Northeastern near Okhals eight miles south of Hattiesburg. Loot estimates range from fifty thousand to two hundred thousand dollars. Sheriff Bennett with twenty deputies and two bloodhounds led the pursuit at dawn. In New Orleans on May 16 two masked bandits robbed the New York Express train on the New Orleans and Northeastern line. They reportedly secured a single package worth 55000 dollars and are believed to have taken total loot around 200000 dollars, possibly the largest in train robbery history.
